An anime television series based on the game, produced by OLM, began airing in Japan on Disney XD on October 5, 2015.[47][48] Most of the episodes focus on Nathan "Nate" Adams solving problems caused by Yo-kai. It has a higher focus on comedy than the games. Some of the episodes have a "Mini-Corner" which features one of the main Yo-kai characters.

On April 7, 2015, Level-5 unveiled a promotional video for a third season of the anime series, which premiered in July 2015. The third season features a new protagonist named Hailey Anne Thomas and her Yo-kai companion Usapyon. It also features new models of the Yo-kai Watch called the "Yo-kai Watch Model U"[49] and the "Yo-kai Watch Dream" model. The third season of the anime series premiered on January 6, 2017, and entered a Busters Arc in July.[50] In February 2018, a sequel series titled Yo-kai Watch Shadowside started airing after the original series ended on March 30, 2018. The first two episodes of the Shadowside anime were broadcast as an hour-long special on April 13, 2018.[51] The Yo-kai Watch Shadowside anime lasted for over 49 episodes, ending on March 29, 2019.
A revival series known as Yo-kai Watch! ran from April 5, 2019 to December 20, 2019 in Japan.[52] It is a continuation of the original series, while serving as a sort of prologue to the fourth movie, in which Nate receives the Yo-kai Watch Elder Version K, which looks like the same watch as the Yo-kai Watch Elder used in Yo-kai Watch Shadowside. While introducing some new Yo-kai, some elements of Shadowside still retain in the new series, like the Yo-kai Arks, and the Shadowside Tribes that were used, for example.
The series is being released on DVD box sets, along with rental DVDs, in Japan by Kadokawa Media Factory.[61][62] Every episode to date is available for streaming on multiple video on demand services in Japan, such as Hulu and Rakuten Video Showtime.[63][64]
Dentsu Entertainment USA announced in April 2014 that they were seeking broadcast and merchandising partners in North America for the anime.[67] The anime began broadcast as a 26-episode season on Disney XD on October 5, 2015,[68] with the official Yo-kai Watch YouTube channel posting episodes a month later.[69] Since the show had performed well, a second season (no relation to the Japanese second season) with an additional 50 episodes was broadcast on August 1, 2016.[70][71] The third season premiered on July 2, 2018 on Disney XD in the United States, and ended on December 29, 2018. In 2019, Disney XD removed the Yo-kai Watch anime from its lineup due to declining ratings; but eventually returned to the network in a weekend-only timeslot in January 2020, re-taking the place of a previous replacement, Inazuma Eleven: Ares. The first season's first volume was released on DVD by NCircle Entertainment on February 26, 2019,[72] and one version of that set comes with a free comic book.[73] The first season's second volume was released on September 3, 2019.[74]
In addition to the wake of Pokémon's renewed popularity, analysts had a few other theories on why Yo-kai Watch was falling. Ken Hōri of The Business Journal and Ollie Barder of Forbes thought it was mainly distribution issues; products that were ordered from the summer vacation were over stocked, because of the six-month waiting period for copyright approvals. Another reason he had was that the toys had incompatible medals with later watches, leading to a loss of interest.[107][97] Barder and Sato of Siliconera also mentioned oversaturation, with it being Sato's main focus.[90]
Unlike in its native Japan where it experienced a short period of great popularity, Yo-kai Watch had an overall underwhelming performance in the United States. Although it got off to a promising start in that region, with the original game selling at least 400,000 units there as of 2016,[111] the sequel, Yo-kai Watch 2, sold less than 200,000 copies in comparison. Meanwhile, Disney XD's English broadcast of the anime series has estimated only 100,000-300,000 viewers per episode, and was removed from the network's schedule in 2017. Despite the franchise's unsatisfactory western response, it maintains a cult following with many attempts to revive the franchise such as #SaveYoKaiWatch which trended on Twitter. The franchise is also popular in Europe, with the original game's sales out pacing the Japanese release as of October 2016.[112]
Yo-kai Watch is a children's anime series based on the video game of the same name developed by Level-5. The anime was broadcast from January 8, 2014, to March 30, 2018, on TXN and related stations.[1] An English dub, produced by Dentsu Entertainment USA, started airing on the Disney XD channel in the United States on October 5, 2015, after the series is officially canceled with never airing the new episodes, due to the low ratings. Canada's Teletoon and Disney XD Canada on October 10, 2015, and 9Go! in Australia on December 14, 2015.[2] Episodes are split into multiple parts. In Indonesia, this anime also aired on Indosiar in 2016, and on RTV starting March 18, 2021.
In February 2018, it was announced that the anime would end on March 30, 2018, at 214 episodes and was replaced with Yo-kai Watch Shadowside to continue the storyline that began in Oni-ō no Fukkatsu.[3]
Primary school student Keita Amano's curiosity is as innocent as any other child's his age. But when one day he decides to venture deeper into the forest, he encounters a small and mysterious capsule. Out from its depths comes Whisper. After 190 years of imprisonment, this ghost-like creature is glad that someone has been kind enough to set him free. He decides to reward Keita by becoming his guardian against supernatural forces. Whisper is one of many Youkai that exist in the world, and provides Keita with a special Youkai Watch, which enables him to see and interact with all the other Youkai. Youkai Watch follows Keita, Whisper and the cat spirit Jibanyan as they encounter Youkai, befriend them, fix all the trouble that they so often cause, and, with the help of the watch, use the powers of previously encountered Youkai to aid them. Young Keita may have been just an ordinary primary school student when he first encountered the Youkai, but the many adventures that follow his discovery provide him with invaluable experiences and precious life lessons that help him grow.
Poofessor showed up in an episode and he shared some interesting facts with Komasan, but Komasan was more interested in enjoying nature, (he was catching butterflies at that moment) finding four leaf clovers, and sleeping.
In episode 49, he and Komajiro dress as Santa and deliver presents for children. For the first time in the anime, Komasan gets angry with Komajiro. He tells him that, as a Santa, he should not have used a taxi to return to him. Komajiro cries, heartbroken at having disappointed his brother, but explains he took a taxi because if he walked, he would have been unable to give Komasan a Christmas present: a small green sling pouch. Komasan thanks his brother and they enjoy the rest of Christmas.
In episode 73, Irewig makes him ticked off. However unlike Happierre, he solves his ticked off problems by cleaning all the gum of the street. He also forces, Nate, Whisper, Jibanyan, and even Irewig to help him build birdhouses. In the end, Irewig gives Nate his medal and Komasan rejoices with his new bird friends.
In episode 82, makes him, Komajiro, and several other Yo-kai jealous at Nate because he was not summoned when they wanted to be. In the end, none of the formerly jealous Yo-kai knew why they were all near Nate, so Komasan asks him. Nate simply says: "All this attention has me tired . . ."
In episode 95-97, 99, and 101-103, Komasan plays Komashiro in "Dog of the North Star," the Yo-kai parody of "Punch of the North Star." He accompanies Whisper and defeats enemies like Sproink, Roughraff, and Thornyan.
In episode 103, Komashiro has his final boss battle against King Nya (Jibanyan). As they continuously punch each other rapidly, a tornado surrounds them. When it disappears, only one Yo-kai stood, but it was neither Komashiro nor King Nya, no it was Jibakoma. This shocks Whisper and King Nya's horse, but a light from the seemingly endless smoke clouds shines on the fused Jibanyan and Komasan Yo-kai, and the series ultimately ends with Jibakoma saying: "For once in my life, I regret nothing."
In episode 119, he and Komajiro watch the Yo-1 Grand Prix in a hot-air balloon powered by 's head and they root for Nate's team. When it came down to a close call scenario, Komasan's chooses Nate, Whisper, and Jibanyan as the winners because they beat Inaho and USApyon by 1 centimeter.
In episode 120, he and Komajiro, as Sangokushi commanders, recruit . Venoct plans to slaughter a tiger, but Komasan interferes and proves that the ferocious animal is actually friendly. Komasan's new tiger friend playfully bites Venoct, thus delighting Komasan, embarrassing Komajiro, and annoying Venoct. 041b061a72
